On Friday, March 2, 2012 Van Derveer held  Read Across America day to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. We welcomed members of the community to share their love of reading with the students. We also had a visit from Sparkee, the Cat in the Hat and VanDerBear!

SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bucket Filling

    To launch the Van Derveer Week of Respect, Mrs. Haynes and Mr. Diaz read the book, Have You Filled A Bucket Today?  to each grade level and led a discussion about simple acts of kindness. The students and staff at Van Derveer have been working hard to fill each other's buckets since!

  • School-Wide Read Aloud

    For the monthly school-wide read aloud, Mrs. Haynes and Mr. Diaz read to all of the students the humorous story, 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving'  by Dav Pilkey.  Mr. Diaz called into the school to read since he was home with his new twin baby boys.

     
    Mrs. Haynes and Mr. Diaz wish everyone in the Van Derveer Community a very happy Thanksgiving.  We are grateful to serve as the leaders of Van Derveer School.
