What does a high school guidance counselor do?
Ø Scheduling & Credits: I will help students register for classes, make sure they are meeting academic requirements, assist in finding classes that will help meet personal goals, and ensure they have enough credits required for graduation.
Ø College & Career Planning: In 9th and 10th grade we will work hard on discovering interests, talents, and skills. In 11th and 12th grade we will prepare for life after high school by: developing an appropriate list of target colleges/universities or exploring employment opportunities; work on crafting excellent college essays, gathering needed recommendations and working through the college application process.
Ø Individual Meetings: Students can make appointments to see me or drop in anytime they need to. I will be available to help them with academic, personal, social, emotional, and any other important issues.
Ø Student & Parent Advocate: My goal is to help make sure students progress along a successful path of growth and development. If you feel that something is prohibiting them from reaching their full potential, I will do what I can to advocate for the student to help alleviate the situation as soon as possible.
Ø Help with Anything! I am here to help maintain a comfortable educational environment so that all students are available to learn. I am happy to answer any questions you may have!
