The Somerville Board of Education prohibits acts of harassment, intimidation, bullying, and hazing. A safe and civil environment in school is necessary for pupils to learn and to achieve high academic standards. Harassment, intimidation, bullying, and hazing, like other disruptive or violent conduct, are behaviors that disrupt both a pupil's ability to learn and a school's ability to educate pupils in a safe environment.
Consequences and appropriate remedial actions for student behaviors that are considered to be acts of harassment, intimidation, bullying, and hazing will be taken in accordance with district policy and is described in each school's student handbook. Copies of applicable Board policies and administrative regulations are available in the district and school offices. For more information please click this link.Van Derveer Elementary SchoolGrades 3 - 5Climate Team:51 Union AvenueSomerville, NJ 08876Phone: (908) 218-4105; option #3Robert ReaveyPrincipalrreavey@somervilleschools.orgKaren Tovi-JonesSchool Social Worker//Anti-bullying SpecialistSteven OrozcoSchool Psychologist/Assistant to the Anti-bullying SpecialistJoelle KesslerTeacherElizabeth SzumigalaParentConducting the School Self-AssessmentEach school, through its School Climate Team (SCT), is required to evaluate its implementation of the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights (ABR) from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017 by using the Self-Assessment.
