• Dear Families and Students,

At this point, I am sure that you are all aware that Somerville School District is operating under a flexible instructional format until April 3rd. The MAPS staff will utilize the following platforms to deliver instruction to our students during this transitional time.  Platforms for instructional delivery are listed below for your review. I have outlined important information regarding key topics while you are working from your home.

Google Classroom- Google Classroom is a free web service, developed by Google for schools, that aims to simplify creating, distributing, and grading assignments in a paperless way. The primary purpose of Google Classroom is to streamline the process of sharing files between teachers and students. Teaching staff from MAPS have utilized this web service since September in their classes. Students are familiar with the procedure of logging in and completing work. Each teacher has listed assignments and activities to support improved student growth.  If you have any questions please reach out via email to myself of the teacher.

APEXAPEX is an online learning platform that has two main purposes. First, it provides a mechanism for students to obtain credit recovery due to excessive absenteeism from the past school year. Second, it acts as a means of obtaining original credit for courses that our students need in order to meet the New Jersey State graduation requirements. Most students are enrolled in courses and have been working to complete them since September. APEX can be completed once the students have completed work from Google Classroom.

Physical Education - Working out is often a great way to de-stress at the end of the day and a good way to keep your immune system in tip-top shape during this time of isolation. Please have students complete the associated physical education activity logs each day indicated on google classroom.

    Staff Communication

While we may be operating under a flexible instructional format from off-site locations, both Mr. Hade and Mr. Baldino will be accessible through email throughout the day.  Please do not hesitate to contact either of them to support student needs during this time.

I realize this is A LOT of information, but working together, we will be able to get through this unprecedented time in history.  The most important part is for all of us to stay safe, healthy and calm. As always I am here for you all. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

    Sincerely, Christopher Baldino
