The Theory of Relativity Tickets
The SHS Drama Club is performing this beautiful moving show, The Theory of Relativity. Please click on the link to purchase a ticket to the live streamed performance Saturday, March 13 at 7:00pm and Sunday, March 14 at 2:00pm. Bridge Year Pilot Program
The Bridge Year Pilot Program (Bridge Year) was established to provide students in the graduating classes of 2021 and 2022 with the opportunity to attend Somerville High School after graduation. The purpose is to offset disruptions to learning opportunities and participation in extracurricular activities that might have resulted from the closure of schools to in-person instruction due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Free/Reduced Meal Application
Starting with the 2020/2021 school year, you will now be able to complete the Free/Reduced meal application online via the Parent Portal. Please log into your portal and click on “meal application” to complete the form.
Please note you only need to complete ONE application per family. This means that if you have more than one student enrolled with Somerville, you only need to complete ONE application.
If you require a paper application, you can download one from our district website at www.somervillenjk12.org, or you can request one from the main office. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Michelle Treanor at 908-218-4104. -
Google Meet and Chromebook Tips:
● Some students have experienced issues with Google Meet crashing or freezing and
there are a number of reasons this could occur.
● If you’re experiencing performance issues with Google Meet, please try the following

1. Make sure you only have one Meet tab open at a time. Close any open browser
tabs, windows, or apps that aren’t currently being used.
2. Put your device on a flat and elevated surface to prevent your device from
overheating. Avoid using your device on the floor or bed for a long period of time.
3. Change your Meet layout to Spotlight view.
4. Change the quality of your device's video to a lower resolutionChange the quality of your device’s video to a lower resolution.
5. Turn off all enhanced features, such as background views, noise cancellation,
and blurred background. -
Grab-And-Go Breakfast/Lunches
Each building has established daily procedures for students to pick up their Grab-And-Go Breakfast/Lunch. If the times or procedures change in any way, we will communicate the changes in a timely manner.

Period Attendance Emails
● In an effort to increase student attendance and participation parents will be notified at the end
of the school day if your child is marked absent from any period throughout the school day.
● Parents of students marked absent for any period will receive a single email and SMS text
message after 4:00 p.m.
● The email will include each period missed, as well as, the year to date total absences the
student has accumulated so far
● Notifications for SMS and SHS began on 12/1/20

School will be closed from March 27th through April 5th for Spring Recess. School will reopen on Tuesday April 6th.

SHS Attendance Reporting Procedures
Parents reporting a child absent are asked to contact the attendance office at 908-243-1547 or email shsattendance@somervilleschools.org prior to 7am on the day of the absence. Please state the name and grade of your child, the date, and reason for the absence. If our health office staff has additional questions,, you will receive a phone call back. Parents that are choosing to have their child attend virtually in lieu of in-person instruction must notify the attendance office and indicate that the student will be attending class virtually each day of expected in-class instruction. Students that do not notify the attendance office of virtual attendance are expected to be present in class and will be marked as "absent" if they attend virtually without prior notification.

Virtual College Visits
Somerville High School will be hosting college visits virtually this year. It appears most vists will take place via Zoom. As of right now our chromebooks are supporting Zoom but in the future this might not be the case and you will need to access your college visit via a personal device. Please sign up for your college visit in Naviance. In addition, all college visit Zoom links will be in Naviance 24 hours prior to the college visit. Enjoy learning about all the wonderful schools out there!
