Ms. Lindsay Frevert

Ms. Frevert has been a part of our Somerville community for the past 16 years. Starting in 2005, Ms. Frevert joined Van Derveer Elementary School as a 3rd grade teacher. In 2010, she transitioned to the role of a 2nd grade teacher. In this role, Ms. Frevert helped to develop and revise the current 2nd grade curriculum. During her time at Van Derveer Elementary School, Ms. Frevert has taken on many leadership roles. She has been a mentor to new teachers as well as a cooperating teacher for student-teachers in collegiate student-teaching programs. Ms. Frevert has been a grade level leader as well as a chairperson for multiple committees including the school’s Variety Show, Equity Team, and Strawberry Festival. In 2016, Ms. Frevert was recognized as a Milken Educator recipient. From 2018 - 2019, Ms. Frevert was provided an opportunity to work at the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) as a Professional Learning Specialist. Ms. Frevert provided workshops and support for districts all over the state to promote the importance of teacher leadership within districts. She also assisted in a principal learning network where principals from all over the state collaborated and provided ideas and support to one another. Additionally, Ms. Frevert assisted in the first ever NJDOE Statewide Conference which focused on equity. Educators from all over the state came together for guest speakers and meaningful discussions and workshops centered around equity. To support learning during the spring of 2020, Ms. Frevert participated in NJTV Learning Live where she created engaging lessons for students all over the State of New Jersey. This was a collaboration between the NJDOE and NJTV.

This past year, Ms. Frevert supervised the first ever VDV Evening Learning Academy where lessons were created by teachers that were shared with the students of the Somerville community. Building relationships and supporting staff has always been important to Ms. Frevert, so she has spearheaded the SunFish committee that fosters and instills staff happiness. You may have seen Ms. Frevert on Wednesday’s Walking School Bus where she walks with students while promoting safe routes to school!

Not only has Ms. Frevert been an active member of the school community, but the district community as well. She worked to improve and strengthen teacher leadership within the district. She has also taken an active role in the district’s equity team and provided support in the transition to our current teacher evaluation system.

“The Somerville community is a special place that promotes inclusivity and continually works to support and grow all learners. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with all staff and administration to strengthen our school community.”
